Wayland Patch 10/18/12: School Committee, Residents Question FinCom on Reduced Budgets. Schedule a meeting to discuss a possible 10 percent budget cut to Wayland schools, and you’ll likely attract a crowd too big for the meeting room. That’s what happened Monday night as residents packed shoulder to shoulder in the School Committee hearing room for a discussion between the School Committee and the Finance Committee about the recently released budget guidelines for Fiscal Year 2014.

Wayland Town Crier 10/18/12: Wayland School Committee bristles at FinCom request. Repeated mention was made of the fact that, among the top six schools in the Boston Magazine survey, Wayland spent the smallest amount per pupil. School Committee Chairwoman Barb Fletcher also spoke of the difficulty of having discussions of cuts in budget and personnel in public and on cable TV.

School Committee to host meeting with FinCom to discuss operating budget with 10% reduction

The School Committee plans to hold a special meeting with the Finance Committee on Monday, October 15th, at 7pm at the Town Building to further discuss the FY14 Operating Budget Guidelines.  The Finance Committee has asked all Town Departments, including the School Department, to submit two operating budgets:

  • One with level services (after being adjusted for steps and lanes, settled contracts and utility changes) and
  • One with a reduction of approximately 10% to help mitigate the potential impact for residents."
The School Committee encourages all community members to be a part of this process by attending this public meeting or by contacting any of the Committee members with feedback.
