Newton administrator is top pick for Wayland superintendent

Wayland Town Crier 1/25/11: Newton administrator is top pick for Wayland superintendent. The School Committee last night tapped Paul Stein, a 17-year veteran of the Newton Public School system, as Wayland's next superintendent. Stein, deputy superintendent in Newton, will be offered the job if contract negotiations are successful. "I think he is the best choice, the best fit for this town, for where we are and where we want to go," said Louis Jurist, School Committee chairman. "He would be a great superintendent here." The School Committee voted to enter into negotiations with Stein and members hope to prepare a contract within a week. The board is replacing Superintendent Gary Burton, who is retiring at the end of the school year.

Second Superintendent Finalist Spends His Day in Town

Wayland Patch 1/14/10: Second Superintendent Finalist Spends His Day in Town. Paul Stein, the second of three finalists for superintendent of Wayland Public Schools, spent Thursday touring the schools of the district before sitting down for a lengthy public interview with school committee members. Currently the deputy superintendent of Newton Public Schools, Stein met with teachers and staff, administrators, students and parents as he familiarized himself with Wayland’s schools and system. “What stands out to me is the pride that people have in this system,” Stein told school committee members at the end of the day. “It feels like an exciting place where kids are really doing the business of schooling. It’s pretty clear that Wayland is a place where there’s an emphasis on academic excellence.”

Wayland interviews first superintendent candidate

Wayland Town Crier 1/11/11: Wayland interviews first superintendent candidate. Delivering high-quality education is the bottom line for a superintendent, said Anne Wilson, the first of three candidates interviewed by the Wayland School Committee last night. Wilson spent the day visiting the town's five schools and meeting with teachers, administrators, students and parents. The School Committee is replacing Superintendent Gary Burton, who is retiring at the end of the academic year. "The thing that is most exciting to me, and one of the things that drew me to this position, is that Wayland is a high-performance district," Wilson said. "I am committed to the type of system Wayland is, a system supported by the local community, a system of high performance and a system of a size where I could make a personal connection and build relationships." Wilson is the assistant superintendent for human resources for Brookline Public Schools and has experience as a teacher, principal and administrator.

Wayland Patch 1/12/11:  School Committee Interviews First Superintendent Candidate.  Dr. Anne Wilson spends her day in Wayland.  Wayland School Committee members invited the public to be in attendance as they interviewed Dr. Anne Wilson,, the first of three Wayland Public Schools superintendent finalists, Monday night.  Wilson, currently the assistant superintendent of human resources of Brookline Public Schools, spent the day before the 7 p.m. meeting visiting schools and talking with faculty and staff, administrators, parents and students in Wayland.

Finalists for Wayland school superintendent position to be revealed

Metrowest Daily News 12/21/10: Finalists for Wayland school superintendent position to be revealed. On Dec. 21, Future Management Systems (FMS) will present the recommended finalists for the superintendent position to the Wayland School Committee and will plan the interview dates for these candidates. Current Superintendent Gary Burton is retiring next year after 18 years on the job. FMS recently developed a Leadership Profile Report that reflects information gathered from the Wayland community, including findings from the focus groups, telephone interviews and online survey, and represents the optimal "fit" factors desired for the leadership position. In addition, the School Committee formed a Search Committee that will be responsible for reviewing applications, conducting screening interviews, and recommending final candidates to the School Committee.
