Wayland Town Crier 12/10/10: 34 candidates apply for Wayland superintendent job. Thirty-four candidates to replace Wayland School Superintendent Gary Burton, who is resigning at the end of the academic year, have stepped to the plate.

In early October, the School Committee hired Future Management Systems of Beverly as a consultant for a nationwide search. Residents were asked to participate in an online survey to share their thoughts on a replacement for Burton, who has been with the district for 18 years.

“This is the largest number of candidates we’ve had in our last several searches,” said Louis Jurist, School Committee chairman. “The qualifications of the top third of the pool were significantly high, due in part to the quality of community as well as to active recruiting by Future Management Systems.”
