Great Presenters: Jim Klumpp—Hiking the Continental Divide
In April of 2022, Jim traveled from Newton to New Mexico to begin walking 2,700 miles along the Continental Divide Trail to Canada, having already hiked the Appalachian and Pacific Crest Trails. Virtual Author Talk: Helen Fry and Women in Intelligence
Historian and biographer Fry is the author of more than twenty books on military intelligence, prisoners of war, and the social history of World War II. Her newest, filled with hitherto unknown stories, is a groundbreaking history of women in British intelligence, revealing their pivotal role across the first half of the 20th century. A Journey through the Roots of American Popular Music
Join us in the Round Room for songs and stories about the origins of the blues, rock, and country music with musician and songwriter Jon Waterman. Hear the intriguing histories that shaped the music we love, and celebrate the diversity of the human experience. Sunday, January 14 at 3 p.m.
Exhibit: Library Catalogs Before the Internet
Since time immemorial, librarians have been figuring out how to let patrons know what’s in a collection. Long before slick online systems (see below), Wayland residents would purchase catalog booklets to take home and peruse. We have several of these fascinating little volumes and they’re currently on display in the Round Room, along with depictions of other catalogs past.
New Catalog on the Way
The Minuteman Library Network is rolling out a new online catalog, which Wayland will officially start using in late January. You’ll find lots of great new features, including the ability to check out books and ebooks from the same site. You can also transfer your Reading History from the old catalog. Start getting a feel for it now at wayland.minlib.net.

Raising a Reader
Children will sing, move, and build vocabulary, early literacy skills, and a love of books! The Red Bag Lending Library will provide families with 4 new books each week. Create a Winter Tree Scene
Children will create their own winter tree scenes using collage techniques, and materials such as doilies, gauze, paint, and musical notation.
