Pre-Primary Forum for State Senate August 13

On Monday, August 13, voters will have an opportunity to meet the candidates running in two contested State House primary races. The event, hosted by the League of Women Voters of Needham, and co-sponsored by the Leagues of Wellesley and Wayland, will take place at the Needham Public Library, 1139 Highland Ave. It will begin with a Meet & Greet at 7:00 PM. The forum for State Representative will begin at 7:30, and the forum for State Senate will begin at 8:00.  Only the forum for State Senate applies to Wayland; this part of the forum will begin about 8pm.

The event will include the two contested primary races. In the primary election for State Representative (13th Norfolk: Needham, Medfield and Dover), incumbent Representative Denise Garlick will meet Ted Steinberg, both from Needham. The winner of that primary will be unopposed in the general election November 6.  This part of the forum will begin at 7:30.

In the State Senate race (Norfolk, Bristol, & Middlesex district), three candidates are seeking the Democratic nomination: Kris Aleksov of Wayland, Jackie Katz of Norfolk and Becca Rausch of Needham. The winner of the primary will go on to face incumbent Richard Ross in the general election. The district includes Natick (Precincts 6,7,9 and 10), Sherborn, and Wayland, Franklin (Precincts 1,2,3, 4 and 7), Millis, Needham (Precincts A, B,C, I and J), Norfolk, Plainville, Wellesley (Precincts B, F and G), Wrentham, Attleborough (Wards 1,2 and 3 and Precinct A), and North Attleborough.

In the Republican primary, there are no contested races for these two seats.

“It is great to see citizens stepping forward to run for state offices,” said Karen Price, President of the League of Women Voters of Needham. “I hope voters will take advantage of this opportunity to hear what the candidates have to say and then vote on September 4.”
