On a mountainside in Kenya, Monet Eliastam had essentially given up hope of finding the wreckage of a plane in which her great-uncle, Simon, had likely perished during World War II. Eliastam and members of an October 2016 search expedition had ascended to 10,000 feet on Mount Kenya, battled through thick bamboo and struggled to find drinking water. They headed back down the mountain, taking a different route.
