Townwide Hydrant Flushing to begin on Monday April 17th

As part of our ongoing effort to improve water quality the Water Division will conduct its Fire Hydrant Flushing Program beginning on Monday April 17, 2017. Flushing will begin in the area of the Reeves Hill Water Tank. It will take approximately six (6) weeks to flush the 100 miles of water distribution mains.

Fire Hydrant Flushing will be performed at night between the hours of 10:00pm and 5:00am Sunday – Thursday to minimize the impact to our customers. Some customers may experience discolored or “rusty” looking water. The discolored water is caused by naturally occurring iron minerals that disturbed during the flushing process. These non-health threatening minerals may cause staining of laundry and plumbing fixtures.
