New Horizons Music 10th Anniversary Concert on December 3rd

Director Diane Muffitt conducts the Sudbury Valley New Horizons Music Concert Band

Ten years ago, then Wayland Middle School band leader Diane Muffitt, called together community members and local parents of some of her students to form Sudbury Valley New Horizons Music (SVNHM). Today, in addition to the original concert band, SVNHM includes a string ensemble, swing band and woodwind choir. Around 90 musicians participate in what is now an established presence and musical opportunity for adults in Metrowest and surrounding towns.

SVNHM will be celebrating this milestone anniversary with its 2016 Winter Concert, which will take place on Saturday, December 3rd, 2016 at 3 p.m. The auditorium at the Wayland Middle School (201 Main Street, Wayland) will be the site of the concert, which will showcase the work of musicians of varying ages and levels of experience. Take a “Sentimental Journey” with our swing band, enjoy a seasonal selection from Tschaikowsky’s “Nutcracker Suite” with our string orchestra, take a walk down “The Streets of Laredo” courtesy of our woodwind ensemble, and hear the contrasting themes of Steven Reineke’s “The Witch and the Saint” as performed by our concert band. Those are just samples of the interesting and varied selections we’ll perform in what promises to be a fun afternoon of music

An opportunity to “meet and greet” our musicians, teachers and conductors will follow. There is no charge for attending the concert, although donations are gratefully accepted; refreshments will be available. You can even “buy a kiss” (candy, that is!) for your favorite musicians!

Sudbury Valley New Horizons Music is always looking for new members – especially for our beginner classes in the fall. Whether you are well-versed at playing an instrument, have never played, don’t even know how to read those little black marks on the paper, or are somewhere in between, our string ensemble or band is for you. Our credo is: “Your Best is Good Enough!”. For more information, e-mail Diane Muffitt at muffitt@bandnotes.info, call her at 978-261-5065, go to www.svnhb.org, or just show up for the concert. We look forward to meeting you!!!!!
