Rachel Schneider, WHS class of 2014 is running the New York TCS Marathon on November 6, 2016 in support of pancreatic research and in memory of Mr. Jim Griffin, a former guidance counselor and coach at WHS. Rachel is a member of team Project Purple, an organization that helps raise money for pancreatic cancer research. The devastating effects of pancreatic cancer were deeply felt when the Wayland community faced a tragic loss. “Mr. Griffin was known not only as a guidance counselor and coach, but as a role model and friend. He provided an immense amount of support and encouragement to everyone he interacted with. He was an incredibly caring person and the impact of his actions and kindness will always be remembered.” said Rachel.

project-purple-logoDespite being the third deadliest cancer, pancreatic cancer research is gravely underfunded. It receives the least amount of research funding out of the top ten cancers. Project Purple is working tirelessly to change this.
