Wayland Police Press Release

On February 11th, at 6:06 P.M., Officer Sean Fitzgerald, while on patrol, observed an elderly man struggling near his vehicle in the driveway of a Caulfield Road home. Officer Fitzgerald recognized that the man was in distress and immediately came to his aid. It turns out that the man had fallen while exiting his garage and sustained serious injuries, including broken bones. When he could not get back into his home, the man dragged himself approximately 30 feet to his car and began beeping the horn in an effort to attract attention.

Officer Fitzgerald provided immediate first aid and summoned the fire department. A fire department ambulance responded and treated the man for his serious injury and exposure to the cold. He was transported to Metrowest Natick Hospital where he is recovering.

Last evening’s temperatures were in the single digits. Paramedics stated that the man had been very close to losing consciousness. Due to the extreme cold temperatures he may not have survived had he not been spotted by Officer Fitzgerald.
