Boston Globe 1/24/16: Wayland High wrestling uses analytics to build a team-first mentality. Sean Chase walked into the bubble-shaped field house at Wayland High Tuesday afternoon with only a whistle around his neck and a sheet of paper in his hand. Chase, now in his ninth season as coach of the Warriors, was ready to prep his team for a much-anticipated dual meet against Cambridge the following evening. Printed on the paper was a neatly formatted spreadsheet featuring his projected lineup. But the most important column listed estimated point totals next to each of his wrestlers’ names. To an outsider, the document wouldn’t look like more than a bunch of jumbled numbers. But to Chase, it is a guide to victory, a highly calculated projection of what he expects from his team.
