foundation for metrowestFoundation for MetroWest 12/10/15:   Foundation for Metrowest Awards more than $250,000 through Regional Competitive Grant Program.

The Foundation for MetroWest distributed grants totaling more than $250,000 to 36 nonprofits serving MetroWest on Monday night bringing their yearly grant distribution to $1.6 million. The annual event, awarding grants from the Foundation’s regional competitive grant program, was hosted at the Weston Community Center. These grants focus on arts and culture, family support and environmental causes.

Recipients will use the funding to strengthen the MetroWest region by supporting a variety of activities including job creation and workforce development, low-cost mediation assistance, support and resources for the elderly and victims of domestic abuse, language and literacy programs, orchestra and theater performances, and environment preservation training.

The Foundation’s Distribution Committee reviewed and carefully considered more than seventy grant applications from nonprofits serving MetroWest.

“MetroWest is fortunate to have so many outstanding nonprofit organizations that keep our communities strong and vibrant,” said Judith Salerno, Executive Director of the Foundation for MetroWest to a room of nearly 100. “The organizations ensure that our elders stay active, our rivers are clean, and our kids have access to the arts and cultural opportunities they love. For that we are thankful.”

The Foundation for MetroWest is the only community foundation serving the 33 cities and towns of the region. By awarding these annual grants, the Foundation is doing its part to enhance the quality of life for all MetroWest residents, Salerno added.
