Wayland wins the state Division II Golf championship

Boston Globe 10/28/14: Wayland wins Division 2 state golf championship. The wind was howling as golfers teed off at the Division 2 state championship Monday morning at Glen Ellen Country Club. Wayland defied the wind and the best the division had to offer, shooting a 306 to claim the title. The Warriors barely got past runner-up Duxbury (308), with Catholic Memorial (315), Concord-Carlisle (318), and Hingham (321) rounding out the top five. The Warriors shot a practice round Saturday, the first time they had seen Glen Ellen. They got a feel for the course layout and the greens, but it was impossible to replicate the wind they would face. The unpredictable gusts were in the back of every competitor’s mind and played a significant role in Wayland’s game plan.

After an opening hole bogey, Wayland senior Nick Morgan stormed back with four birdies over the final six holes to card an even-par 72 yesterday, helping the Warriors take home the Division 2 state title by 2 shots over c with a 306 score at Glen Ellen Country Club.

Wayland Town Crier 10/28/14: Wayland meets high expectations, wins Div. 2 state title. The Wayland golf team had high expectations when it first met for practice back in August. Coach T.J. Anthoine believed his team was skilled enough to turn hope into reality, but knew the Warriors would have to play their best when the stakes were the highest. On Thursday afternoon, Wayland accomplished the largest goal it set out to achieve, winning the Division 2 state championship with a team score of 306.

MassLive 10/27/14: Palmer, Cathedral golf teams finish 9th, 10th as Wayland wins the state Division II championship. “I’m so excited for my kids,” Wayland coach TJ Anthoine said. “We’ve been talking about this moment since August. I’ve been fortunate enough to have a deep and talented team which makes competition in practice more intense and gets them ready for a moment like this.”
