Youth in Philanthropy Program Seeking Applications from Wayland High School Students

MetroWest Youth Distribute Grantsfoundation for metrowestDo you know of a high school student who is interested in…

  • Learning about the needs in their own backyard,
  • Enhancing their leadership skills,
  • Making a positive impact on their community,
  • Making grants to local nonprofit organizations of their choice?

If so, encourage them to apply for the Foundation for MetroWest Youth in Philanthropy program!

The Youth in Philanthropy program – also known as YIP – helps high school students develop the knowledge and skills to become community leaders. Throughout the program, participants become informed and educated philanthropists. Students learn the importance of the nonprofit sector and giving back to their own community. They form their own Board of Trustees and have the opportunity to run for leadership positions, fundraise for the program, visit local organizations, and distribute grants to the nonprofits of their choice.

A recent YIP participant said, “Previous to hearing about the program, I had not been aware of any opportunities for high school students to have such an in-depth experience with nonprofits. It was also a chance to make a large impact on several areas of the MetroWest community at once; an opportunity high school students are not often presented with. YIP really helped in developing my understanding and appreciation for nonprofits, and has pushed me to constantly look for ways to become more involved in the community.”

Since it began more than 15 years ago, the Foundation for MetroWest Youth in Philanthropy program has graduated over 900 students and awarded nearly $700,000 in grants to organizations that serve youth throughout MetroWest. The Foundation for MetroWest is proud to be running one of the largest youth philanthropy programs in the country.
