Wayland LibrarySPECIAL HOURS
The Library will be closed on Monday, May 26, for Memorial Day. Also, during Wayland High School finals week, the library will be open late until 11 p.m. for high school students who want to study for finals on June 16, 17, and 18. We will serve pizza at 5:30 p.m. on those evenings to teens who are here during the dinner hour and will also provide some snacks throughout the evening.

SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE AGAIN
Professor Helen Whall of the College of the Holy Cross is back this spring for a series entitled “Shakespeare in Love Again.” The last meeting is May 28 and the play to be discussed is “Anthony and Cleopatra.”

LYME DISEASE DOCUMENTARY
Tick season is definitely upon us and in honor of Lyme Disease Awareness Month, librarian Rachel Sideman-Kurtz will be showing “Under Our Skin” in the Raytheon Room on Thursday, May 29, from 1-3 p.m. The film highlights the hidden epidemic of Lyme Disease and how our health care system is failing to address it. It was an Academy Award semifinalist for documentary feature and won numerous awards at local and international film festivals.

PARENT/CHILD BOOK GROUP
The next meeting of our parent/child book group (for children in grades 4 and 5 with a parent) will be Wednesday, May 28, from 7-8 p.m. in the Children’s Room. Each month we discuss a different book. This month we will talk about “Troubletwisters” by Garth Nix and Sean Williams. Led by Youth Services Librarian Pam McCuen.

ZUMBA KIDS JR.
On Wednesday, May 28, from 10:30-11 a.m., children ages 2.5 to 4 years old can join us for a rhythm and dance program led by Julia Walderzak of H2K Happy Healthy Kids Fitness Studio in Sudbury.

NON-FICTION BOOK GROUP AT LAST!
There’s a lot of great non-fiction these days, and we’re starting a group to talk about it. Led by our own Nancy McMenemy-McColm, the first meeting is on Monday, June 16, 7-9 p.m. and the first title is Edward Slingerland’s “Trying Not to Try: The Art and Science of Spontaneity.” Come join the conversation!

FICTION BOOK GROUPS
Our Noontime Book Group will meet at 12 p.m. on Friday, June 6. The selection is “Swimming Home” by Deborah Levy. Our Evening Book Group will meet on Monday, June 2, from 7-9 p.m. and will be discussing “Good Omens” by Gaiman and Pratchett. New participants are always welcome at all our book groups.

INTERIOR DESIGN FOR ALL AGES AND ABILITIES
Wayland resident Tica de Moor and co-founder Connie Fong of Inclusive Interiors will present a program on functional and thoughtful interior design that appropriately meets the needs of persons of all ages and abilities. Learn about universal design principles and how to apply them. Discover how simple changes to your house can “lift” your home to the next level of functionality and design. Tica and Connie will discuss interior design as it relates to different physical abilities and life situations such as “aging in place,” multigenerational households, and “solo” living. Start making your home more functional, user friendly, safe…and beautiful. Tuesday, May 27, 7:30-9 p.m.

APPEARANCE BY TED REINSTEIN FROM TV’S “CHRONICLE”
On Tuesday, June 17, at 7 p.m., journalist Ted Reinstein will be at the library to talk about his new book. Ted is a longtime, award-winning reporter for “Chronicle,” Boston’s celebrated—and the nation’s longest-running—nightly TV news magazine. In June 2013, Globe Pequot Press released his first book, “New England Notebook: One Reporter, Six States, Uncommon Stories,” a collection of Ted’s most memorable and favorite stories drawn from over fifteen years of reporting from every corner of New England. According to Ted, the program covers “the best of the best—his all-time most favorite people and places in New England.” Following the talk, Ted takes questions from the audience and sign copies of his book, which will be on sale.

ONE DOOR CLOSES
On Wednesday, June 18, from 7-9 p.m., the library will host local authors Tom Ingrassia and Jared Chrudimsky. They will read from and sign copies of their book, “One Door Closes: Overcoming Adversity by Following Your Dreams.” The book captures the stories of 16 people from all walks of life who triumphed over seemingly insurmountable obstacles to achieve their goals. Ten of those profiled are residents of Massachusetts. Also profiled in the book are Scherrie Payne of The Supremes, June Monteiro of The Toys, and Mary Wilson of The Supremes (for whom Ingrassia worked for five years).

GREAT DECISIONS
The next Great Decisions discussion will be on Friday, June 6, starting at 9:15 AM in the Raytheon Room. The topic will be “Energy Independence.” New members are welcome to attend.
