On Tuesday, February 25, 2014, the Wayland Police department conducted undercover cigarette compliance checks of local businesses/establishments that sell tobacco products. One youth, aged 17 was sent into establishments with instructions to attempt to purchase cigarettes without showing any identification.
Three of the fourteen establishments checked sold cigarettes to the underage youth: Donelan’s Supermarket (177 Commonwealth Road), Sunoco gas station (19 Main Street) and Gulf gas station (28 Boston Post Road). These establishments will be referred to the Board of Health for follow up.
The Wayland Police Department regularly conducts both alcohol and cigarette compliance checks at local businesses in an effort to reduce the underage consumption of alcohol and tobacco products.
