LYDIA MARIA CHILD: DOMESTIC DIVA
In connection with Wayland’s 375th anniversary, on Sunday, January 5, from 2:30-4:30 p.m., authors Keith Stavely and Kathleen Fitzgerald will serve up a delicious feast of information and recipes highlighting the domestic side of Wayland’s foremost abolitionist and author, Lydia Maria Child. Child, in addition to her incredible efforts on behalf of reform, was the best-selling author of early nineteenth century advice books, including the popular Frugal Housewife. Stavely and Fitzgerald are the authors of America’s Founding Food: The Story of New England Cooking and Northern Hospitality: Cooking by the Book in New England. They will regale us with their own experiences trying to follow Child’s imprecise recipes. Members of the Wayland Historical Society have volunteered to try out some of the recipes and pass out samples. An appetizing way to start the New Year! Co-sponsored by the Wayland Historical Society.
