Wayland 2013 Veterans’ Day Program

On Veterans Day, Monday, November 11, 2013 at 10:00 A.M., Wayland will honor our American Veterans of MetroWest with a two-part- program at Trinitarian Congregational Church Gymnasium, 53 Cochituate Road, and at noon at the Veterans Memorial adjacent to the Town Building.  All are welcome to attend this public event.

The indoor program features patriotic music and the Army Color Guard from Soldier Systems Center (Natick Labs) who will open and close the indoor ceremony. There are two main speakers.
CPT Laurel Smith will speak on the lessons she learned while serving as the Chief of Concussion Care Clinic while deployed to Afghanistan.
C. Peter R. Gossels, Esq., former Moderator for the Town of Wayland, Holocaust survivor, US Army Veteran and lawyer will speak on “Service to Country and Community”.

Before and after the program, there will be a display of 10 original oil paintings by the late artist Edward Brodney drawn during his Army service in the South Pacific during WWII.

Following the speaking program there will be a short recess for a chance to mingle and chat with veterans, view displays while enjoying refreshments in the café.

At 12:00 P.M. (noon) a formal ceremony will take place at the Wayland Veterans Memorial located behind the church at the Town Building. This ceremony honors those 39 men of Wayland who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country.

This biennial Veterans tribute is again the initiative of long time resident George Bernard in collaboration with Matthew Ching, Veterans Agent. This program is sponsored by the Wayland Public Ceremonies Committee and supported by members of the Wayland High School Football Team.
