Boston Globe 9/29/13: They run to honor catalyst for kindness. Pam Washek touched numerous lives across Massachusetts with Neighbor Brigade. Even after death, her commitment to helping others lives on, and Pam’s Run, a fund-raising event being held in Wayland on Saturday, is just a part of that legacy. “I feel so strongly about delivering on Pam’s dream,” said Joanna Manikas, Washek’s sister and codirector of the road race. “She was and continues to be the catalyst behind this.” Washek, who died last year, helped start Neighbor Brigade, which continues to grow at break-neck speed. The idea for the organization was born after Washek and a close friend, Jean Seiden, went through cancer treatment together in 2002 and their friends rallied around them, helping to keep their households running.
