WHS Principal Pat Tutwiler announces he will not be returning to WHS in the Fall

tutwilerPrincipal Pat Tutwiler sent the following email to the school community this afternoon:

I am writing to inform you that my tenure in Wayland has come to an end. I will not be along for next year’s voyage. Two weeks ago, a former colleague in the Boston Public Schools contacted me about an opening. I accepted an invitation to discuss this opening with the superintendent of schools. Shortly thereafter, they made an offer that I accepted. Next year, I will serve as headmaster at Brighton High School, the school at which my career in education began.

In my tenure as an educator, there is no decision over which I agonized more. The Wayland community has been extremely good to me and I sincerely hope that the community believes that I have given my all to the students. That said, I began my career as an educator in an urban district and I have long contemplated a return. This particular situation, albeit untimely, is the right challenge in the right place for me in my career.

Dr. Stein has already begun work to identify an interim replacement – it is simply too late to engage a full search. We have leads on some really good folks. We hope to have someone in place before August 1st. Additionally, Mr. Parseghian and Ms. Mizoguchi, the Dean of Students and Assistant Principal respectively, will provide continuity on the WHS administrative team. I have always believed that the success of a school depends in large part on the quality of the faculty and staff. Accordingly, I am confident that WHS is in great shape for next year.

I extend my sincere gratitude for allowing me to be a member of this wonderful community for the last six years. It is an experience I will treasure and reflect upon fondly. I am forever indebted. I look forward to learning about the wonderful things this school community will do in the years to come.
