Wayland Town Crier 6/30/13: Local students test the waters at Tanglewood. Among local students accepted to attend the world-famous Boston University Tanglewood Institute this summer is Wayland’s Karen Zhang. Established in 1966, BUTI provides workshops and longer programs for orchestra instruments, vocals, composition, wind ensembles, harps and pianos for students 14 to 19 years old, including recent high school graduates. Returning for a second summer, Karen Zhang, a 17-year-old from Wayland, who will be studying the saxophone, recalled “really nice, down-to-earth teachers” and “fun, interesting kids.”
