Public invited to Annual Meeting of the League of Women Voters of Wayland, May 29

The public is cordially invited to the annual meeting of League of Women Voters of Wayland on Wednesday, May 29th in the Community Room at the condos next to Tradition’s Assisted Living. Our speaker will be Dr. Bruce A. Jackson Professor and Chair, Biotechnology and Forensic DNA Science Programs at MassBay Community College. Dr. Jackson is chair of the science department at Mass Bay Community College where he has built a powerhouse in biotechnology education. Last year, WBZ news highlighted one of his students who won a prestigious Goldwater scholarship, the only community college student in the country to do so—and with the highest score!

Dr. Jackson is a noted forensic DNA expert in the United States and abroad. He has used DNA analysis to determine the ethnicity of the remains of 13 individuals accidentally exhumed from a 17th century slave burial ground and to verify the paternal ancestry of an African-American family to President Madison who allegedly fathered a child with a slave. He created MassBay’s unique academic program specifically for nontraditional students, the first degree program in DNA analysis in the world and it remains the world’s only such undergraduate degree program.

The business meeting will begin at 7pm and the speaker at 7:30. Refreshments will follow.
