Broomstones to host Junior National Curling Competition, January 26-February 2

curlingBroomstones Curling Club in Wayland MA will be hosting the 2013 Junior National Curling Competition Jan. 26-Feb. 2. The Junior Nationals invites the top ten junior, (under 21), men’s and women’s teams from across the US to compete for the National Championship. The winner of the event becomes team USA and earns a trip to the Junior Curling Worlds at the Olympic venue in Sochi, Russia in March. This year Massachusetts’ Korey Dropkin and his team defends their 2012 National Championship to again represent the US at the Worlds. Last year Korey placed 5th at the 2012 Junior Worlds, 5th at the inaugural Youth Olympic Games in Innsbuck, Austria, (3rd in the mixed doubles portion of the event), and was named the 2012 Male Curler of the Year. At 17 he is the youngest curler to be awarded the honor.

The Junior Nationals is a weeklong event with multiple matches throughout the day. Typical game times are 8am, 12pm, 4pm and 8pm; the official schedule can be found online here for exact times and an exact listing of who is playing.
