SUMMER HOURS.  Our summer weekend hours are Saturdays 10-1, closed Sundays. Our weekday hours remain the same.

New Online resources. Don’t forget to go to www.waylandlibrary.org to check out some of our new exciting online resources.  You’ll find them by clicking on the “Research Databases” link from our upper navigation panel. 

  • Price It! Antiques & Collectibles, an identification, research and pricing tool
  • Testing & Education Resource Center, a test prep program for AP, SAT, PSAT, ACT, GED and a wide variety of vocational and licensing exams
  • Legal Forms, a wide selection of state-specific (and multi-state) legal forms
  • Britannica’s SmartMath, adaptive smart math practice, suitable for children ages 6-14
  • Consumer Report online, unbiased advice about products and services, personal finance, health, and nutrition
  • The New York Times, full-text of the Times from January 1, 1985 to the present

Personal Cloud Computing E-vening.   What is “cloud computing”?  How does it affect you personally?  As we discuss the rise of “personal cloud computing,” we’ll explore how online resources you probably already use are part of the cloud.  We’ll also show you how to use the library’s Chromebook notebook computers—available soon for library use—to share, browse and get work done in “the cloud.”  Wednesday, July 25, 7- 9 p.m. in the library’s Raytheon Room.

SUMMER READING PROGRAM. Our Summer Reading Program is in full swing. Our next big event is a shadow puppet show of Jack and the Beanstalk on Tuesday, July 31, at 10:30 a.m.  Future events include several drop-in craft afternoons:  Nocturnal Animals Drop-In Craft on Wednesday, July 25 from 2-4 p.m.; Dreamcatcher story/craft on Thursday, August 2, from 3-4 p.m.; and Night Sky Drop-In Craft on Wednesday, August 8, from 2-4 p.m.  For children ages 4 and up.  On Tuesday, August 14, from 3:30-4:30 p.m., we’ll have a Summer Reading Ice Cream Bash for all youth enrolled in our Summer Reading Program.  Kids, come make your own ice cream sundae and celebrate all your reading this summer!

TEEN PIZZA PARTY.  On Wednesday, August 15, from 6:30-8 p.m., teens who participated in the Teen Summer Reading Club "Own the Night" are invited to a pizza party.  The raffle winner for the "Own the Night" gift basket of cool prizes will be announced at the party.  Call 508-358-2308 to register.

JULY EXHIBITS.  Bob Olshansky of Wayland exhibits documentary photographs from a series called “Ivy’s World” in the library foyer during July.

SUMMER FUN AT LOCAL ATTRACTIONS.  Looking to have some summer outdoor fun with the family?  The Friends of the Library sponsor many museum passes that are particularly apropos  enjoying the great outdoors:  Drumlin Farm, Boston Harbor Islands, Franklin Park and Stone Zoos, Boston by Foot, Fruitland Museum, Davis Farmland, and also our Massachusetts State Parks pass, which allows free daytime parking for one carload of visitors to most Massachusetts State Parks that charge a parking fee.  To reserve these and to get information about all our museum passes, visit waylandlibrary.org.
