Wayland Town Crier 12/15/11: Wayland girls shine at Women in Science Competition. On Dec. 3, as the sun rose slowly over the Wayland lawns dusted with a heavy frost, a small band of young women gathered at Wayland High School to make their way to a day of academic challenge and competition.
This group consisted of five juniors, Caroline Ayanian, Samantha Briasco-Stewart, Maggie Hojlo, Hannah Kinney and Kruti Vora, and one senior, June Kim. There were divided into two teams – Wayland A (Hannah, June and Maggie) and Wayland B (Caroline, Kruti and Samantha). They had prepared by reviewing chemistry, physics, engineering, earth science, anatomy, etc., and building a boat that could only be powered by one standard mouse trap. The girls from the Wayland B team came in first and won a plaque, medals, and each received $500 to be used in their future education endeavors. The Wayland A team also placed very well, finishing sixth overall.
