Wayland High School student present survey results

Wayland Town Crier 11/18/11: Wayland High School student present survey results. A panel of eight Wayland High School students implored local parents to send more powerful messages to their children about the dangers of substance abuse at a recent public forum on alcohol and marijuana consumption among the town’s teenagers.
Parents are the most important protective factor in a teen’s decision to use drugs or alcohol, the students said. Teens who perceive their parents would disapprove of a teen’s decision to use these substances are far less likely to do so than those who believe their parents are relatively permissive.
“In Their Own Words” was sponsored by WaylandCares, a coalition dedicated to reducing youth substance abuse in Wayland.
