E-book Evening with Matt
Are you interested in learning how to download free library books to your e-reader?  If so, bring your mobile device to the library from 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday, December 14, when our new technology librarian, Matt Amory, will provide some tips on how to use your reading device with our OverDrive service.  This service can be used with most popular e-readers, including the Kindle, the iPad, the iPhone, and the Nook. 
 
Sharing Artwork Online
Arts/Wayland member Pete Curran will present a hands-on technology workshop for sharing images on Flickr, Picasa, and Facebook on Tuesday, November 29, from 6:30-8:00 p.m.    Sponsored by Arts/Wayland and is open to all.  For more information, contact artnews@artswayland.org.
 
AUTISM:  A MEDICAL PERSPECTIVE
On Tuesday, December 6, at 7:30 p.m., Ann Neumeyer, M.D., Medical Director of the Massachusetts General Hospital's Lurie Center for Autism will describe the cardinal features of autism, as well as the number of medical and psychosocial issues that present with this disorder.  Neumeyer is a pediatric neurologist who grew up in Wayland, attended Wayland High School, and has returned to live here after she completed her child neurology training.  She has cared for children with autism and developmental disabilities for the past 20 years working to improve diagnostic and treatment options for patients. 
 
BOOK GROUPS
Our Evening Book Group will be discussing Blame by Michelle Huneven on Monday, December 12, at 7 p.m.  The next meeting of the Noontime Book Group is at noon on Friday, December 9.  That group will be reading Unaccustomed Earth by Jhumpa Lahiri. 
 
ART EXHIBITS
Celia Judge exhibits some of her paintings in the library foyer during November.  During November Molly Beard is displaying her watercolors in the library’s Raytheon Room. 
 
Ukulele Class
Teens, have you always wanted to play the ukulele?  It takes just minutes to start learning to play the uke!  Come to the library for a Teen Ukulele Class on Tuesday December 6, from 2:30-3:30 p.m.  Bring your own or borrow one from instructor Danno Sullivan.  The class is part of the School and Public Libraries’ Teen Advisory Board.  We meet once a month and we’re open to all teens ages 12 and up.  Refreshments will be provided.
 
Needlework/Handwork Group
Our next monthly meeting will be on Thursday, December 8, from 10-11:30 a.m.  This is a group, facilitated by Ann Moses, that meets monthly in the library’s Raytheon Room.  It’s for people to work on needlework and handwork projects together. 
 
TUESDAY MORNING STORYTIME
Morning storytimes continue most Tuesdays from 10:30-11 a.m. for ages 0-5. Our interactive program encourages learning, socialization, and fun!  Registration is not required. We ask that parents and care givers participate in the storytime activities with their children.  For more information, contact theYouth Services Department at 508-358-2308.
 
Pajama StoryTime
On Monday, November 28, from 6:30-7:00 p.m., the Wayland Children and Parents Association is hosting a Pajama Storytime in the library’s Raytheon Room.  This event is open to the public. 
 
Poetry Workshop
The next Poetry Workshop will be on Wednesday, November 30, at 2 p.m. in the Raytheon Room.
 
The Ancient Silk Road—Journey Across Central Asia
The legendary Silk Road represents a vast network of ancient trade routes spreading westward across Asia through the Middle East, eventually reaching Europe.  A conduit for the exchange of prized silks, spices and jewels as well as philosophies, cultures and religions, the Silk Road was a catalyst for the rise and fall of some of the greatest civilizations in history. On Tuesday evening, December 13, at 7:30 p.m., join us as lecturer and photojournalist Barry Pell, who lived in China for two years, takes us on a journey along the fabled and fabulous ancient Silk Road.  The program will focus on the history of the Silk Road and its impact on architecture, religion, language, ceremonies, and food.
