Why you should join the timebank and get services as if they’re free

 

Tuesday October 11, 2011 at 7pm at the Framingham Public Library 49 Lexington Street, Framingham.  Costin Room – 1st Floor handicap accessible. Free parking both on-site and on the street  Walking distance from the commuter rail station 

Have you ever noticed that different people are good at different things… Well join the timebank and when you spend an hour helping another member, you get an hour credited to your account. And then, there are over 600 member's services to consider using. It's fun, useful and easy to join. 

Recent services traded in the timebank have included: 

  • giving rides around town, to Ikea, to the airport/Logan Express 
  • yard, lawn, landscape help, cleaning garage 
  • computer help, computer training, website design 
  • decluttering, cleaning & moving help, 
  • counseling, coaching 
  • nutrition advice, yoga, acupuncture, body work, Reiki 
  • dog walking, personal shopping, child care, bike help 
  • cooking food, language lessons, editing papers 
  • cat sitting 

Recent services requested have included: 

  • blues harmonica lesson, haircut 
  • house cleaning, canoe repair 
  • gallery assistant, knitting 
  • build flowerboxes, painting 
  • yard design, fix patio stones 
  • computer instruction, repair 
  • refinish furniture, massage 
  • car repair lesson, Hindi lesson 
  • repair railings 
  • bike travel advice, sharpen mower 

The next Timebank Orientation for the Metrowest area [and anyone else who wants to join] is on Tuesday, October 11, 2011. You must attend the Orientation Session to sign up. Come check it out!   This meeting is being held at the Framingham Library.  It is open to all, but it is not a library sponsored event.

  4. members trade services – and there are over 800 members today
  5. everyone's talents are equally valued…every hour of work = every other hour of work
  6. in this economy it really helps folks get things they need without spending cash to do it… if they have offered services to others and have hours in their account
  7. it builds community, by social events, and by working with local organizations, who can also become members
  8. we've been featured by NPR
  9. we've been written up in both the Wayland and Framingham papers
  10. there are alot of fun things to do to help other members…and fun things to get too
