Wayland Town Crier 6/10/11: Marlborough, Wayland, Medway honored for going green. Top state officials gathered at City Hall on Thursday to hail Marlborough, Medway and Wayland as role models for the state’s clean energy revolution. The new Green Communities, recognized in a ceremony yesterday, are committed to reducing their municipal energy use by 20 percent within five years.

Green Communities must meet five clean-energy benchmarks, including a pledge to purchase only fuel-efficient vehicles for municipal use whenever possible.

In March, the state awarded the latest round of grants for the communities. Wayland received $132,000 to help fund lighting upgrades and the design of an energy retrofit for town offices to improve efficiency.
