Captivating Discussions With Extraordinary People :  Dr. Jeffrey Hoffman, Professor of Aerospace Engineering in the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics at MIT and former NASA Astronaut, to Speak in Wayland

Reviewing the Hubble Space Telescope missions, the status of the International Space Station, and looking at the possibilities of commercial space flight in a discussion titled "Where Are We Going In Space?"

Join us as Dr. Jeffrey Hoffman addresses the Walden Forum Thursday evening, May 12 at 7:30 pm. The Walden Forum is held at First Parish Meeting House, at the intersection of Routes 20 and 27 in Wayland, Mass.

Dr. Hoffman’s specialization and research interests have included human space flight operations, space flight technology, human-machine interactions, extravehicular activity and conducting laboratory research. In his talk, “Where Are We Going In Space?,” Dr. Hoffman says, "Human space flight in this country is at a critical junction. Commercial space flight is poised to assume a new and perhaps revolutionary role in our country's space activities. I will discuss the current space policy situation and look ahead to what the future might bring."

He will also reflect on his time in space and what it was like to look back on spaceship Earth.

Dr. Hoffman is the fourth speaker in this free-to-the-public series of presentations, lectures and events that Walden Forum plans to offer over the coming year.

He is a former NASA astronaut who made five space flights to become the first astronaut to log 1000 hours of flight time aboard the Space Shuttle. He has performed four spacewalks, including the first unplanned, contingency spacewalk in NASA’s history in April, 1985 and was on the initial repair/rescue mission for the Hubble Space Telescope in December, 1993.
