Public Forum on Middle School athletic fields, May 25

A public forum has been scheduled on Wednesday, May 25 at 7:30 p.m. in the Town Building to receive comment and input on the proposed athletic fields and leaching field at Wayland Middle School.  The sole purpose of the public forum is to listen to public comment regarding the project; no votes will be taken during the forum.  The Recreation Commission hopes to identify potential issues related to the planned improvements to assure that the consultant team hired to evaluate the proposal researches and responds to each item.  There will be no attempt to answer questions, but rather than opportunity to identify concerns so appropriate site assessment professionals can be engaged in June.  The commission expects to make every effort to mitigate issues that negatively impact the neighboring properties and the educational and athletic program in designing the athletic fields.  The study will determine whether the fields can be built or whether site constraints will limit the project scope to a single field or no fields.  Once it is determined whether fields can be built as proposed, a design consultant will be retained to complete that phase through permitting and bidding.  Only after this effort will a financing plan be prepared and proposed to the Finance Committee to be presented at the 2012 Annual Town Meeting.
