The Board of Selectmen will meet on Monday, January 3 in Town Building.
After receiving public comment, Selectmen will interview and consider for appointment citizens interested in serving as a member of town boards and committees. Michael Connors is seeking appointment as an associate member of the Zoning Board of Appeals for a term expiring June 30, 2013. In addition, Selectmen will discuss potential appointments to the three-member Public Safety Advisory Committee. The temporary panel has been created to review and advise proposed changes to the facility to secure building systems and repair the basement.
Next, Selectmen will discuss standard articles that appear each year in the Warrant for the Annual Town Meeting, including recognition of citizens and employees for particular service to the town, hear reports of certain boards and committees, voting on certain officers of the town, paying bills from prior fiscal years, current fiscal year transfer of funds, FY2012 omnibus capital and operating budget, authorization to sell or trade vehicles and equipment, accepting gifts of land, accepting the law increasing real estate tax exemptions, and setting aside the required 10% of Community Preservation Act funds to the three uses – open space, historic preservation, and affordable housing. On January 10, the Board will consider other articles proposed for consideration for insertion in the Warrant and hold the petitioner’s workshop – an opportunity for citizens contemplating submission of an article to become familiar with the process that culminates with town meeting.
After considering the consent calendar and reviewing correspondence, the Board will hear the weekly report of the Town Administrator featuring a preview of agenda topics for the next several meetings, a briefing on the Town departmental budgets (including public safety), and an update on the transfer station pilot program sharing facilities with Sudbury. The agenda concludes with Selectmen’s reports and concerns, including scheduling office hours for January 2011.
The meeting begins at 7:00 p.m. in the Selectmen’s Meeting Room. A reminder that the next meeting of the Board of Selectmen will be held on Monday, January 10, 2011.
