Sunday, December 12, Christmas Oratorio, First Parish, 10am

The First Parish in Wayland (Unitarian Universalist) offers a “Music Sunday” of a major work twice a year.  This season’s offering will be Camille Saint-Saëns’ Christmas Oratorio, to be presented by orchestra, soloists, and the First Parish Adult Choir on Sunday, December 12th, at 10:00 am.  Pauline Oliver, Music Director, will conduct.   All are welcome to attend this concert.

Saint-Saëns (1835-1921), noted composer of the opera Samson and Delilah, has written a charming and quite different style of cantata than the choir has presented on Music Sundays past.  Although the prelude is subtitled “in the style of Sebastian Bach,” this is a musically romantic interpretation of the Christmas story.

Soloists will include Amy Meneely (soprano), Marilyn Kucharski (mezzo), Lucy Pease (contralto), Ray Bauwens (tenor), and John Whittlesey (baritone).  String players will be joined by guest organist Thomas Satterlee and harpist Judith Ross.
