Veterans’ Day Schedule of Events

The Wayland Public Ceremonies Committee will conduct a double ceremony on Veterans Day.  On Thursday, November 11, a rededication of the World War II memorial with a new plaque (a gift of the Wayland Firefighters Association) featuring 16 names of Wayland men killed in action during World War II will take place on the Lokerville Green opposite the Villa Restaurant beginning at 11am.  The second ceremony of the day will take place at the Wayland Veterans Memorial in front of the Wayland Town Building starting at noon.  The program details are below (and are available online here)

11 am – Welcome and introductions
11:05am – Invocation and Pledge of Allegiance
11:10am – Unveiling of the stone and plaque
11:15am – Reading of names of Wayland residents killed in action in World War II
11:20am – Brief comments why this World War II memorial plaque was so important to replace
                     Announce plans to have Veterans Day 2011 ceremony feature profiles of all 16 Wayland residents killed in action in World War II
11:25am – Sing National Anthem and play echo taps
11:30am – Benediction and retreat to Wayland Veterans Memorial at Town Building

12pm – Welcoming remarks by Richard P. Turner, chairman of the Public Ceremonies Committee, and remarks by Steven J. Correia, chairman of the Board of Selectmen
12:05pm – Invocation
12:10pm – National Anthem and Posting of Colors (American Legion Post #133 of Wayland), and Pledge of Allegiance led by Veterans Agent John Turchinetz
12:15pm – Reading of the 39 names of residents killed in action
12:25pm – Echo taps by Wayland High School band members
12:30pm – Laying of the wreath by John Turchinetz, and closing prayer
