Boston Globe 6/7/09: Wayland author’s stories breathe life into character of Jewish doll. Rebecca Rubin may be a real little girl only in the imaginations of her legions of small fans, but the newest American Girl icon has a mother of sorts: Jacqueline Dembar Greene of Wayland. Greene, a veteran children’s book writer, created the personality and life history of Rebecca, a young Russian-Jewish girl growing up in 1914 on the Lower East Side of New York City who dreams of becoming an actress.
