Boys Tennis advances to Div 2N Finals
Only Boys Tennis remains of the Wayland teams in the MIAA tournaments.
Division 2N Boys. #2 Wayland defeated #7 Marblehead 5-0 to move to the semifinals against the winner of #3 North Andover v. #11 Arlington. Wayland defeated North Andover 5-0 to proceed to the finals. That match (against #1 Winchester) is Saturday at 2:30p at the Woburn Racquet Club.
Should Wayland defeat Winchester, they will proceed to the finals (Div 2N v. Div 2S) on June 11 at Winchester.

Wayland rallies past Sharon to win Division 2 boys’ state tennis title
Boston Globe 6/13/12: Wayland rallies past Sharon to win Division 2 boys’ state tennis title. The Wayland boys’ tennis team did not get off to a promising start in Tuesday’s Division 2 state final at Newton North High. Facing Sharon, which was undefeated at 20-0 entering the championship, the Warriors dropped their two doubles matches to leave coach Shawn Powers feeling uneasy. “There was a lot of doubt, plenty of doubt,’’ Powers said. “Early on, everybody was down in their first set, and way down, too. And we lost our first set in third singles, too.’’ Despite the early adversity, Wayland’s underclassmen saved the day. Freshman Will Sharton, sophomore Jon Goodman, and sophomore Ethan Hecker rallied to sweep their singles matches and help the Warriors defeat the Eagles, 3-2.
Boys Tennis Team wins state championship
Congratulations to the 2012 Division II tennis champions, Wayland High School. They defeated Sharon in the Division II finals this afternoon at Newton North.

Wayland’s Sullivan chases professional tennis dream
Boston Globe 3/28/10: Wayland’s Sullivan chases professional tennis dream. A year after starring on the women’s tennis team at Boston College, Wayland’s Alina Sullivan has embarked on a promising professional career. The daughter of former Harvard tennis captain Paul Sullivan, Alina won in both singles and mixed doubles last month at the Chrysler Cup in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, earning $2,000, and is ranked 1,106th in the world in singles and 726th in doubles.
