Pelham Island Bridge Update (September 19, 2012)

Much of the backfill is now in place. Work is proceeding on the end posts, the Texas Rails on both sides of the bridge (the wall above the roadbed), and the utilities. This phase of the work will continue for the rest of September and all of October. The picture below was taken Tuesday afternoon (9-18-12). The brackets on the bridge are to support a work platform.

Pelham Island Road Bridge Closing Wednesday

Wayland Patch 6/19/12: Pelham Island Road Bridge Closing Wednesday. The bridge over the Sudbury River on Pelham Island Road will at last close to through traffic on Wednesday, June 20 to allow for a replacement bridge to be constructed. Prepartory work began in February as crews constructed temporary structures to carry utilities over the river during construction. The bridge was originally scheduled to close in late February, but delays in the utility construction project led to the delay in closing the bridge.

Contractor expects to cut water to Pelham Island Monday

Wayland Patch 3/9/12:  Contractor expects to cut water to Pelham Island Monday.  Contractor Michael Brooks has informed town officials that construction crews are tentatively scheduled to temporarily cut water service Monday to about 65 residents affected by the Pelham Island Road bridge project.

Pelham Island Bridge Construction Continues

Wayland Patch 3/6/12: Pelham Island Bridge Construction Continues. Work is proceeding on the Pelham Island Bridge at a good pace. The contractor is in the process of inserting four, 66-foot H-beam pilings into the ground just downstream of the existing bridge to temporarily support the water main and the gas line in preparation for the bridge being replaced. The contractor is using a large crane to insert the steel pilings, which are vibrated into position. Two of the pilings are now in place, reaching down to bedrock. Two concrete foundations have also been poured at the crossing points on both river banks. The process is being overseen by MassDOT District 3 personnel stationed in Worcester.
