Is Chapter 40B worth it? A look at ballot Question 2

Wayland Town Crier 10/7/10: Is Chapter 40B worth it? A look at ballot Question 2. Advocates on both sides of ballot Question 2 agree that Massachusetts needs more affordable housing. What they disagree about is whether a 40-year-old law meant to bring more units has delivered on its promise. Opponents and proponents of Chapter 40B will speak during a public forum on Thursday October 14 at the Wayland Senior Center. The forum is sponsored in part by the Wayland Housing Partnership, the Wayland Housing Authority and the League of Women Voters. [Note: the October 7 date for the forum in the linked article is incorrect]

By the spring of 2011, smoking will be history throughout Cochituate Village Apartments, Bent Park, and all the single and multi-family homes operated under the auspices of the Wayland Housing Authority. After two public hearings in June, the five-member Housing Authority voted unanimously on July 15 to institute a blanket prohibition on smoking in all 111 of its apartments and the 20 scattered-site homes they operate in town. Informational session on Affordable Housing Proposal, Monday, May 3

An informational session on the proposal to transfer a parcel of land to Habitat for affordable housing will be held in Town Building at 7:30pm on Monday, May 3 as part of the Wayland Housing Partnership meeting. This proposal concerns a 3-acre parcel on land on Stonebridge Road where the aqueduct crosses the road. The land is currently owned by the town DPW and an article in the town warrant asks that it be sold  for one dollar to Habitat for Humanity – MetroWest/Greater Worcester. It is anticipated to build two duplexes, housing a total of four families. We hope to be able to involve Wayland religious and youth groups in building the houses. Funding will be from donations and from the mortgages the new owners pay.  Habitat representatives will be on hand to answer questions. This informational session is separate from the general Warrant Hearing also being held at Town Building on May 3.
