Wayland Police and Fire Departments Respond to Early Morning Fatal Crash on Shaw Drive

Town of Wayland 3/30/2024:  Police Chief Ed Burman and Fire Chief Neil McPherson report that the Wayland Police and Fire Departments responded to a fatal single-vehicle crash early Saturday morning.

On Saturday, March 30 at 1:36 a.m. Wayland Police and Fire responded to the area of 41 Shaw Drive for a report of a motor vehicle crash.

Upon arrival, first responders discovered a Kia EV6 that had crashed into a tree and was on fire.

The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, a 43-year-old Wayland man, was trapped inside the vehicle. Firefighters immediately began working to extinguish the fire and extricate the driver from the vehicle.

The fire was extinguished approximately 40 minutes later, using two hose lines. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The scene was cleared at approximately 6 a.m.

Massachusetts State Police assisted at the scene and the Sudbury Fire Department provided station coverage.

The crash remains under investigation by the Wayland Police Department and the Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the Middlesex County District Attorney’s Office.

“This was a truly tragic incident that resulted in the loss of one of our dear community members,” said Chief McPherson. “On behalf of the Wayland Police and Fire Departments, we extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the victim.”
