Wayland Electricity Choice Public Information Sessions

The Town of Wayland is pleased to announce the launch of Wayland Electricity Choice, a type of group electricity buying program from the Town that gives residents and businesses more choice and control over the electricity they buy. Through Wayland Electricity Choice and the collective buying power of the community, Wayland electricity customers will get more of their electricity from renewable sources for a price that is lower than Eversource’s current residential Basic Service price. However, future savings compared with Eversource cannot be guaranteed.

Wayland Electricity Choice participants will see a change only in their electricity supplier and in the price that Eversource uses to calculate the Supply portion of their electric bill. Eversource remains Wayland’s electric utility, and they will continue to deliver electricity in Wayland, address power outages, and send electric bills.

The public is invited to two public information sessions about the program in the Wayland Town Building at 41 Cochituate Road:

  • Tuesday, April 2, 2024, 11:30 AM – 12:45 PM: in the Council on Aging meeting room
  • Wednesday, April 3, 2024, 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM: in the Large Hearing Room

These meetings will be conducted in person with a remote attendance option, both meetings will be recorded and available on WayCAM as soon as possible after the conclusion of the meeting. The following Zoom link will be used for both meetings (https://wayland-ma-us.zoom.us/j/86788093827?pwd=peZVAyn7410fa6QEm6rtOUh6LhMUxo.1)

If you require an ASL interpreter, please make that request via the customer support form on WaylandElectricityChoice.com or by sending an email to support@WaylandElectricityChoice.com, and please note that an information session with interpretation services may need to be scheduled on a different date from the general public information sessions.

The Town has mailed automatic enrollment notifications with program details which residents should receive in the near future. All official program communications will feature the Wayland Town Seal (it may be in black and white or in color). Always check communications for the Town Seal, if it does not feature the Town Seal, it is not from the Town. If you are unsure if you have received the opt out notice you can view it here. Please note the opt out notice only applies to those who received it via Mail. If you did not receive the notice via mail you will not be automatically enrolled in the program, and will need to visit WaylandElectricityChoice.com to enroll in the program

The Town has signed a contract with First Point Power that will keep Wayland Electricity Choice prices fixed and stable for 24 months. In comparison, Eversource’s Basic Service prices change every 6 months or less, and their future prices are not known. For most Wayland electricity customers, no action is required to participate. In accordance with state law, electricity customers in Wayland with Eversource’s Basic Service are eligible for automatic enrollment when the program launches in May and will first see a Wayland Electricity Choice price on their bill in June.

Participation in Wayland Electricity Choice is not required. Wayland electricity customers have the right to opt out of the program before being automatically enrolled or can try the program and opt out at any time with no penalty or fee. Those who opt out will remain with Eversource’s Basic Service pricing. Information about how to opt out will be included in the automatic enrollment notification and on the program website WaylandElectricityChoice.com.

Electricity customers who have signed private electricity supply contracts will not be enrolled automatically, but they can request enrollment online at WaylandElectricityChoice.com or over the phone by calling the Town’s program consultants at 1-844-202-6400. Those with private contracts are encouraged to first check the terms of their electricity supply agreement before making a change to avoid penalties like early termination fees.

Anyone eligible for a low-income discount from Eversource will continue to receive that discount. In addition, anyone receiving solar credits or incentive payments will continue to receive them with no change to how the credits or incentive payments themselves are calculated.

More information about the program is available at WaylandElectricityChoice.com or by calling customer support with Wayland’s program consultants at 1-844-202-6400.
