  • Virtual Author Talk: Victoria Aveyard. Join us as the instant #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Red Queen and Realm Breaker series chats about YA fantasy fiction, world-building, and her incredible body of work.  Register.  Tuesday, December 5 at 7 p.m.
  • Great Presenters: Win Treese and The Romantic Engineer. Though poetry and technology seem antithetical, poetry itself is a technology, combining techniques to create emotional effects.  And technologies can move us—both literally and figuratively—in unexpected ways.  Join Win–software consultant, writer, teacher, and poet–in exploring how poetry can help us contemplate the artificial as well as the natural world.  Register.  Tuesday, December 5 at 7:30 p.m.
  • Kids and Teens BOGO Book Sale. That’s Buy One, Get One free of the same value!  Choose from thousands of picture books, chapter books, YA novels, fantasy, activity books, popular series, graphic novels, and more–most at 50¢ to $1.  Buy a reuseable tote for $4 and fill it up!  Sunday, December 10 from 2 to 5 p.m.
  • Board Game Night. Bring a board game, a card game, or just your enthusiasm to try new things.   • Virtual Author Talk: Stephanie Land and Class. In her latest memoir, the author of the bestselling Maid offers–in clear, candid, and moving prose–a searing indictment of America’s educational system and an inspiring testimony of a mother’s triumph against all odds.  Register.  Tuesday, December 12 at 2 p.m.
  • Author Talk: William Martin and December ’41. The NY Times-bestselling author of Back Bay and Bound for Gold returns with a propulsive  thriller set in the days just after Pearl Harbor, as a German spy prepares to assassinate FDR.  Reading followed by Q&A.  In person and online.  Register.  Tuesday, December 12 at 7 p.m.
  • Virtual Craft: Felted Gnome Workshop. Use a barbed needle and wool roving to create a felted gnome in this beginner’s class on Zoom from Pop-Up Art School.  Ages 13+.  Limit 20 people.  All supplies provided before class—watch for an email to pick up your kit at the library.  Register.  Thursday, December 14 at 7 p.m.
  • Steeped in Secrecy: The Boston Tea Party, 250 Years Later. Learn about the brewing political problems tea presented in its history with Anglophile and former UK resident Claire Evans. Next, author, genealogist, librarian, and former UK resident Debra Dudek examines the history of the most famous Partiers, as well as how to trace bona fide participants through lineage societies and historical groups.  Hosted by the Tewksbury Public Library with the support of the Wayland Library and other MA libraries.  All registrants will receive the recording of the program via email.  Register.  Saturday, December 16 at 2 p.m.

FOR BABIES, TODDLERS AND PRESCHOOLERS

  • Baby & Toddler Storytime with Ms. Carly.  This storytime encourages early literacy and caregiver-child interactions with lively songs and rhymes, bounces, books, and body-awareness. Best for babies and toddlers, with caregiver. Please register. Tuesdays, December 5, December 12, at 10:30 a.m

    Note: Tuesday December 12th will be Ms. Carly’s last storytime at the Wayland Public Library. She will be leaving Wayland for a new opportunity closer to home. Please stop by to say goodbye! Tuesday morning storytimes will resume after the New Year.
     
  • Storytime with Ms. Pam. Join Ms. Pam for stories, songs, puppets, and activities. For ages 2.5 to 5 years with an adult. We will meet in the Children’s Room. Please register. Thursdays, December 7 and December 14 at 10:30 a.m.
  • Hanukkah Storytime. Come learn about Hanukkah, the Jewish festival of light, with songs and stories. Program led by Rabbi Josh Breindel and Youth and Family Education Director Scott Newman from Congregation Beth El in Sudbury. For age 2 and up. Please register HERE.   • Sing, Move, and Story! Jodi Levin from Family ACCESS Community Connections will lead children in songs and movement, and will share a story! For ages 0-3. Please register HERE. Wednesday, December 13, at 9:30 a.m.
  • Music, Story, Fun! with Ms. Janet. Join Ms. Janet for a musical storytime. She’ll bring her ukulele, rainbow bells, and puppets! We will meet in the Children’s Room. For ages birth through age 4, with caregivers. Please register HERE. Thursday, December 28, at 10:30 a.m.
  • Movement with Little Beats. Join Little Beats for 30 minutes of music, movement, and fun! For ages 1-5, with caregiver. Please register HERE. Friday, December 15, at 10:30 a.m.
  • Storytime with Obie the Dog. Children will listen to dog stories and have a chance to visit with Obie, a beautiful Samoyed. Obie will be accompanied by his owner Helen. For ages 3 and up, with an adult. Please register HERE. Thursday, December 21, at 10:30 a.m.

FOR ELEMENTARY AGE CHILDREN

  • Lego Club. Children will make fabulous creations out of legos. This month’s theme is Magical Creatures! We will meet in the Raytheon Room. For ages 5 and up, with caregivers. Please register HERE. Wednesday, December 6, at 2:00 p.m.
  • Winter Holiday Origami. Children will make origami Christmas trees and Channukah dreidels in this simple origami workshop led by Fenn School student Lucas Li. For children ages 6 and up. Children under 9 must be accompanied by an adult. Please register HERE. Tuesday, December 12, at 4:00 p.m.
  • Butterfly Story/Craft. Children will listen to stories about butterflies and make a butterfly craft! Wayland High School student Tara Sawrikar will lead this program, as a part of her Girl Scout Award project. For children ages 6 and up. Please register HERE. Wednesday, December 13, at 4:00 p.m.
  • Winter and Holiday Crafts. Join Ms. Elise to make winter and holiday crafts. Paint, fold, bead, wrap and design! For ages 5 and up with caregiver. Please register HERE. Wednesday, December 20, at 3:00 p.m.

FOR TEENS

Henna Workshop for Teens. Henna, more traditionally referred to as Mehendi art, is a temporary tattoo art form consisting of intricate motifs that adorn hands and feet. This workshop will take an unconventional approach to the ancient art form. Teens will begin by getting familiar with the henna cone, and then draw patterns, such as flowers, leaves, and vines, on a canvas. Teens are also, of course, welcome to draw on their own hands. All materials will be provided. Local teen Niyathi Srinivasan from Henna for Humanity will lead this workshop. For teens in grades 6 and up. Please register HERE.
