Fall Foliage is a perfect excuse to take a day trip to New Hampshire to view an uplifting film about Russell’s Garden Center. It’s showing at the “Monadnock Film Festival” on Sunday Oct 1st at 12:45 pm.

Winner of the “Best Documentary Award” from “Boston International Film
Festival” and the “Jury Award” from “Wales International Film Festival”, this 90-minute film is now nominated for “Best Documentary Original Score” in Croatia at the “International Sound and Film Music Festival”.

The film, “Growing Through Covid-19” is Directed by Wayland High School 2011 graduate, Genevieve Skehan. It beautifully shows the struggle of a small business and the healing power of gardening. In March of 2020, 144-year-old, Russell’s Garden Center considered closing their business forever. “Growing Through Covid-19” shows what this 5th generation family, their employees and their community did to help them survive. It tells the story of how many new and experienced gardeners found health and happiness by digging in the soil and gardening during the pandemic.

“This intimate story of a family and a garden center under siege is supported by
beautiful cinematography and underscored by a tender suite of original music.
It’s a heartfelt film that offers big insight about the hidden gifts of the pandemic.”
– Joyce Kulhawik (Emmy award winning movie & theater critic)
