An evening of musical merriment with Don White and Mark Stepakoff – Arts Wayland

On Saturday, September 9th at the Vokes Theater, join Arts Wayland for an evening for musical merriment with Don White and Mark Stepakoff.  Don White is equal parts storyteller-comedian-author-troubadour-folk singer-songwriter, and his award winning music has been bringing audiences to laughter and tears for 30 years. Opener Mark Stepakoff is widely admired on the local folk and roots music scene for his trademark mix of wry humorous material and poignant ballads. Together Don and Mark are a virtual one-two punch of humor and heart.

Doors open 7:30. Music, mirth and merriment start at 8pm.

Mosaic Tapestry Workshop

Mosaic Tapestry Workshop with Amy Marks – Fall 2023 – Arts Wayland

Learn a new skill this fall! On September 9th from 9:30-4:30 in her studio in Waltham, popular mosaic teacher Amy Marks will host a Mosaic Tapestry Workshop. In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn how to combine simple and complex patterns to create a mosaic tapestry or carpet. You will make a 5” X 10” tapestry by creating intricate designs using Italian murano glass millefiori, glass, jewelry, fabric and beads. Design templates will be provided. No grouting required. Open to students at all levels.

Nando Michelin-Ebinho Cardoso Group – Arts Wayland

On Sunday, September 10th at 3 pm Nando Michelin and Ebinho Cardoso will continue Arts Wayland’s popular jazz series, led by Neil Olmstead, Berklee Professor of Music. The Nando-Michelin Ebinho Cardoso group, which is composed of Berklee faculty, will present their new repertoire of songs using poems by Manoel de Barros. This performance will feature an exciting mix of Brazilian popular music and jazz.  The colorful songs are a vehicle to feature beautiful poems and the musicians’ mastery.

Weave a Table Runner Workshop

Weave a Table Runner Workshop – Arts Wayland

Learn to master the art of hand weaving and weave a table runner to be taken home at the end of the class, just in time to set your Thanksgiving dinner table, or to gift a loved one for the holidays. No previous experience is necessary, as you will be guided by the teacher through the weaving, design and finishing process.  We will be weaving with repurposed cotton fabric strips and luxury yarns on rigid heddle looms.  Each student will be encouraged to see this way of weaving as a potential form of art and design which will be foremost in determining a unique table runner.Consider bringing your own fabrics to cut into strips and weave with. These can include a son’s flannel shirt, a husband’s neckties, patterned sheets which are no longer in service, etc.  The teacher will have many cotton fabric strips to choose from as well.

The Arts Wayland Expo

Arts Wayland Expo 2023

On Saturday, September 30th at the Town Green (Andrew Ave, Wayland) from 1 pm to 7 pm, the stage will rise again for the Arts Wayland Expo, so bring a picnic blanket and your sunglasses and come on down! This year’s event stars Billboard Magazine Top 20 Blues Artist Danielle Miraglia and the Glory Junkies. There will also be Wayland bands, a Shakespeare in the Park performance, a dance performance, a 16-Tent Pavilion with Artwork and Cultural Exhibits, and food and beverage trucks. Last year, this event drew 300 attendees. Best of all, it is free! Can’t wait to see you there!

Make Your Own Polymer Clay Tiles Workshop

Make Your Own Polymer Clay Tiles – Arts Wayland

In the morning, you’ll learn how to create your own mosaic tiles (tesserae) with polymer clay (Sculpey III or Primo) using a variety of techniques including stamping, painting, and gold leafing. You’ll also discover techniques for embellishing clay with mica powder, Rub ‘N Buff  and other colorants.  In the afternoon, you’ll combine your clay tiles with glass, beads, recycled jewelry and paint to make a keepsake box or a picture frame. This workshop is open to students at all levels.

Mosaic Mirror Workshop – Fall 2023 – Arts Wayland

With the holidays right around the corner, now’s the time to create something special for your loved ones that they will enjoy and use.  Imagine their delight when they get a handmade mirror from you!  In this one-day workshop, led by Amy Lou Marks on Sunday, November 5th from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm, you will learn how to design a beautiful round mosaic mirror. You’ll create intricate and simple patterns using the richness of millefiori, beads, recycled jewelry and glass. The possibilities are endless.  You’ll also learn about the benefits of using apoxie sculpt as an adhesive (no grouting!) as well as the some of the basics of color and design theory.

Mosaic Jewelry Workshop – Winter 2023 – Arts Wayland

On Friday, December 8th from 6:30-9 pm, enjoy a night out making your own jewelry. Mosaic artist Amy Lou Marks will supply the silver-plated pendant bases and earring blanks and all the glass, china, beads, jewels and bling that you will need to make a unique gift for yourself or for others.  With the holidays right around the corner, this is a great way to have fun creating something one of a kind for your loved ones! The best part–no previous jewelry or mosaic experience is needed. To make your evening more festive, BYOB and snacks to share. The course fee includes all supplies to make either one or two pieces of jewelry (pendant or pair of earrings). Pendants include a chain.  Extra pendant and earring bases are available for an additional fee of $20/base.

Where: Wayland High School – Main Building – in the Commons

When:  Sunday December 3rd  11:00 AM-5:00 PM

Registration Fee for Vendors: Early Bird Special: $75 on or before Sept. 30; $90 after Sept. 30

Each artist will be provided with a 10’x10’ space, table & chair. All proceeds go to the artists.
