Carroll School Endowed with Historic Philanthropic Gift from the Watts Family

It is with deep gratitude that Carroll School celebrates the receipt of a historic gift to our endowment from the Watts family. This generous contribution will open the door to more students who need financial support to access Carroll’s transformative education.

Since Dan Watts joined Carroll in the third grade in 2003, the Watts family has been an integral part of our community. Dan’s previous school failed to recognize and nurture his potential due to a lack of understanding of his learning differences. However, everything changed for the better when he enrolled at Carroll. Witnessing the remarkable transformation in Dan’s self-confidence, his grandparents David and Beverly Watts were deeply moved and made Carroll a philanthropic priority for nearly twenty years.

As a testament to the life-changing impact that Carroll had on their grandson’s life and the unwavering support the family holds in its mission, David and Beverly made a $4 million bequest to Carroll’s endowment through their estate. This transformative gift will provide financial assistance to families, ensuring that countless children, like Dan, have the chance to unlock their full potential at Carroll for years to come.

“When Dad approached us about making a charitable commitment, there was no question in any of our minds that Carroll would continue to be our priority as a family. Our sincerest hope is that this gift will allow Carroll to be an option for students who may not otherwise have the resources to attend.”
—Brad and Regina Watts

With this generous vote of confidence, Carroll is now more equipped than ever before to fulfill its core mission: to embrace diverse strengths, identities, and lived experiences, and give each child what they most need to thrive.

“When folks ask me about our work and mission at Carroll, they often ask: ‘Why Carroll?’ It’s an easy answer: We literally change the lives of students and their families. With this gift from the Watts family, we will continue to expand our reach and impact, changing lives one child and one family at a time.”
—Renée Greenfield, Head of School

The Watts family inspires us with the legacy they created at Carroll School. On behalf of our educators, students, and families, we thank them for this profound and enduring investment in Carroll.
