Sunday, February 5, 2023 at 2:30 p.m.  Lydia Maria Child: A Radical American Life, In person: First Parish in Wayland, 50 Cochituate Road or via Zoom – Registration link below.

Presented by the Wayland Museum and Historical Society, First Parish Wayland and the Wayland Free Public Library via Zoom and in-person at the First Parish Wayland

Author Lydia Moland, professor at Colby College, will talk about Lydia Maria Child (1802-1880), one of Wayland’s most renowned citizens and a courageous abolitionist who lived on Old Sudbury Road in the mid-19th century. By then a prolific writer, Child shocked her readers by publishing the first book-length argument against slavery – so radical that friends abandoned Child and the sale of other books that she had penned plummeted.
