ADULT SERVICES

  • In Pieces—A Creative Community Workshop. In this participatory creative workshop for adults and young adults–second in the series “Creative Explorations of Climate Change”–we will use art materials to explore two visions of our world: one of grief and uncertainty, and the other of joy, gratitude, and beauty.  We will do this on Zoom, but together.   No art experience needed, just two pieces of paper or canvas, scissors, and your favorite medium.  Led by Kaat Vander Straeten and a co-facilitator.  Sponsored by Transition Wayland, Wayland Energize, Arts Wayland/The W Gallery, and the Wayland Public Library.  info@energizewayland.org for the Zoom link.  Thursday, February 17 at 7:30 p.m.
  • Cultivating Justice Toward Racial Equality. Since the death of her 17-year-old son, Trayvon Martin, during a violent confrontation in 2012, Sybrina Fulton has become an inspiring spokesperson for parents and concerned citizens across the country.  Despite the intense struggle of losing a child, Fulton turned her grief into advocacy and now lends her voice to speak against violence towards children and for the need to build better, safer communities for all.  Generously cosponsored by the Wayland Public Library, Ashland Public Library, Beech Street Center, Belmont Human Rights Commission, Town of Belmont, Belmont Against Racism, Belmont Public Library, Lincoln Public Library, and Morrill Memorial Library Norwood.  Register through our Events menu.  Thursday, February 24 at 7 p.m.
  • Great Presenters: Ocean Exploration, 7 Miles Down. We gaze up into “outer space,” yet rarely consider the vast ecosystems contained within the ocean’s “inner space.”  Wayland resident Rob McCallum has led a three-year program placing humans in the deepest point of all five oceans on a mission described as “the most significant exploration expedition in a century.”  Join us as he describes his recent dive to Challenger Deep, Mariana Trench (36,000 ft), a location that has never known daylight and is subject to colossal pressures of 8 tons per square inch.  Register through our Events menu.  Tuesday, March 1 at 7:30 p.m.
  • Tax Forms Are Here. Please take only one of each.  If you need additional forms or schedules, the Reference Librarian will be happy to print them for you, free.
  • Historical Typist Needed. That is, someone who would be willing to transcribe some of the contents of our collection of historical documents so we’ll have them in digital form.  You don’t have to be historical yourself.  Contact mwright@minlib.net for further information.
  • ESOL Tutors Needed. It doesn’t matter if you don’t speak a foreign language or have never taught before.  Once you complete the Library-sponsored training course, you’re ready for what could be a wonderfully rewarding relationship.  The course for this winter/spring will be on Zoom, from 2-5 p.m. on five consecutive Wednesday afternoons: March 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30.  For more information or to enroll, contact Ginny Steel at 508-358-7517 or virginia@thesteels.com.
