- Great Presenters: The World’s Emergency Room. Dr. Michael VanRooyen is the Director of the Harvard Humanitarian Initiative at Harvard University. He is also the Chairman of Emergency Medicine at both Mass General and Brigham & Women’s Hospitals. What’s more, he has worked in humanitarian relief settings for over 30 years, in most of the world’s active war zones. He will discuss the radical changes in the way the global community provides emergency humanitarian aid for the world’s most vulnerable populations, and highlight major innovations in the field of humanitarian relief. - Craft Supply Swap
- January 23-28: Donate your craft supplies upstairs at the reference desk. (For large donations, please contact cmichael@minlib.net ahead of time.) Be sure to pick up your swap ticket when you donate.
- January 29, 10-1 pm: Return to the library’s Raytheon Room with your swap ticket to browse and take home the perfect inspiration for your next project.
- January 29, 1-3 pm: Don’t have anything to donate? Stop by and help yourself!
- Limit 15 “swappers” at a time. Masks are required by the Town of Wayland. We cannot accept open liquids such as paints, chemicals, and glue. All remaining supplies will be used for programs, donated to charity, or recycled.
- ESOL Discussion Groups. Two new groups, for intermediate or advanced ESOL speakers, meeting twice a month starting January 7 and 11, through March. Tuesdays 1-2 p.m. and Fridays 10-11 a.m. Discussions will be about a short story or article. This is a great way to improve your English and perhaps make new friends. No preparation needed, but you must register by emailing mwright@minlib.net or calling 508-358-2311 and asking for M. J. Limited to five students, but there will be a waitlist.

- Weekly Facebook Live Storytimes with Ms. Carly. Join Ms. Carly for a Facebook Live storytime on the Wayland Public Library’s Facebook page. Babies through preschool age are invited to listen to stories, sing songs, and perform fun rhymes and movements. Tuesdays, Jan. 25; Feb. 1, 8, 15 and 22 at 10:30 a.m.
- Storytime on Zoom with Ms. Pam. Join Ms. Pam for stories songs, puppets, and crafts through zoom. This interactive storytimes encourages language development, socialization and fun. Story Walk: A Story for Small Bear. Families are invited to walk around the outside of the library and read the Story Walk of A Story for Small Bear by Alice McGinty. Kids can also take a Scavenger Hunt sheet to fill out while looking at the illustrations. Bring the completed sheet in to the Children’s Room for a sticker! The Story Walk will be hung in the windows of the library throughout the month of January.
