Wayland Cultural Council awards $8977 for Local Arts and Culture Initiatives

The Wayland Cultural Council is pleased to announce it awarded $8,977 to 14 applicants enriching our community with projects in the arts, sciences and humanities.  With a $6,100 allocation to disperse, the Council had additional funds to grant, generated from when grantees did not seek reimbursement in prior years.

With a stated desire to fund projects impacting our local community, particularly ones that meet our focus on equity, diversity and inclusion, we’re proud to fund the following:

  • The Wayland Council on Aging’s Summer Community Concert Series
  • Wayland Free Public Library’s installation of Vitality, Vibrant and Visible:  Local Indigenous Identity Through Portrait with artist talk to occur next autumn
  • The Wayland High School Connect Program’s mural Commemorating COVID
  • MA Education Theater Guild’s High School Drama Festival to occur at Wayland High School in March
  • Henry the Juggler’s performance to kick off the Wayland Free Public Library’s Summer Reading Program in June
  • Arts Wayland’s Zachor:  A Dance Piece Exploring the Role of Jazz During the Holocaust to occur in April at the W Gallery
  • The Discovery Museum’s “Open Door Connections” program providing equitable access to the museum year-round
  • Musicians of the Old Post Road for its March concert, Earthly Baroque at First Parish in Wayland
  • The Beautiful Stuff Project’s Participatory Data Sculpture Workshop at the W Gallery in the spring
  • Bhumika Arts’ performance, Discovering the Ancient Language of Movement to occur next summer
  • PlayTogetherGo that will have student musicians performing the work of diverse composers in May
  • The Framingham Centre Common Cultural District’s Many Cultures, One Heart Public Art Festival to occur in June
  • Opera Del West’s performance of Divas and Doggies at The Center for Performing Arts in Natick in March
  • Visual Arts Therapy at the Virginia Thurston Healing Garden in Harvard

The Wayland Cultural Council is one of 329 Local Cultural Councils (LCCs) serving 351 towns across the Commonwealth as part of the Massachusetts Cultural Council’s LCC program. Through a grant process, the Council funds community-based projects in the arts, sciences, and humanities and is the largest grassroots cultural funding network in the nation.

Members of the Council are appointed by the Board of Selectman and currently include Wayland residents Sean Ahern, Rebecca Ahmed, Katy Allen, Andrea Blesso, Ashley Fuller, Lynne Lipcon, Jane Purser, Rachel Sideman-Kurtz, Sophie Simmons, Kathy Trogolo and Susan Warren.
