Enjoy opening the holiday season with your friends and neighbors at the Wayland Center Holiday Open House on Sunday, December 5 from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. This annual community event is sponsored by the Wayland Historical Society, the Wayland Free Public Library, First Parish in Wayland, the Wayland Depot and the W Gallery. Get into the holiday mood with inventive seasonal decorations and outdoor events featuring musical performances, activities for kids, caroling, and packaged treats. The Historical Society’s Grout-Heard House will be accepting donations of packaged food for My Brother’s Table Food Pantry (successor to the Parmenter Food Pantry).
Stop by the Grout-Heard House Museum to admire the Girl Scout tree on the front lawn, decorated this year with ornaments made by the girls to celebrate “The Olympics” and women in sports. Your gifts of food may be placed under the tree. The Wayland Garden Club is decorating the outside of the house including the pet lion from the former Mansion Inn. There will be a special activity and take-away treats in festive bags for visitors.
The Wayland Free Public Library is offering a Story Walk of the beautiful picture book A Story for Small Bear by Alice McGinty. Families are invited to walk around the outside of the library, read the pictures hung in the windows, and come inside to check out more books!
The Wayland Depot, in our historic 1881 train station, will be open from 12:00 – 5 :00 p.m. offering an array of handcrafted gifts and unique holiday items for sale. Arts Wayland invites you to its Holiday Marketplace at the W Gallery, 57 Andrews Avenue in the Town Center from 12:00 – 5:00 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. There will be twelve tables selling various crafts and goods such as jewelry, ceramics, baby gifts, decorative pillows, and wood sculptures.
Cap off Sunday with Caroling beginning at 4:00 p.m. on the steps at First Parish. The Rev. Maddie Sifantus, founder/director emerita of the Golden Tones, accompanied by the Sudbury Valley New Horizons Band, will lead the carolers in this loved Wayland tradition. The rain date for caroling is December 12 at 4:00 p.m.
