SVT Announces Fall Programs

Marcia Wilson and her husband Mark have been presenting live owl programs for 27 years. The Wilsons care for non-releasable owls and hawks that work as wildlife ambassadors. They will present “Eyes on Owls” on October 17. Pre-registration is required at www.svtweb.org/calendar.

SVT Announces Fall Programs

Sudbury Valley Trustees (SVT) has released its Fall Program Calendar of nature-themed outings and programs, many of which are open to the public at no charge.

SVT is a nonprofit land trust that conserves open space and farmland in 36 communities around the Sudbury, Assabet, and Concord Rivers. Through its wide assortment of programs, SVT encourages area residents to explore the region’s beautiful natural areas and gain an appreciation for the plants and wildlife that live among us.

Over the next three months, SVT will lead nature walks at properties in Framingham, Littleton, Berlin, Boxborough, Harvard, and Sudbury. In addition, SVT staff will lead walks at the O’Donnell Property in Marlborough and the Peppercorn Hill Conservation Area in Upton, two locations where SVT recently collaborated on successful conservation projects.

All programs require pre-registration at www.svtweb.org/calendar.

Other upcoming programs include:

  • Stargazing and Dark Skies, Tuesday, October 12 at 7:00 p.m. in Harvard. Following an introduction to the worldwide “Dark Sky” movement that aims to minimize the impact of artificial light at night, participants will venture outside to gaze through telescopes at the nighttime sky. Free.
  • Eyes on Owls, Sunday, October 17, at 1:00 p.m. in Sudbury. Learn about 19 species of North American owls and then meet six live owls up close. Hooting lessons complete the program. $5 for SVT members; $10 for non-members; free for those under 18.
  • Self-Guided Reflection Walk, October 1-31, Harvard. Visit Horse Meadows Knoll, off Sherry Road in Harvard, to experience the joy of nature while learning how diverse peoples see their interrelationship with the natural environment. As you tour this 1-mile trail, please pause to read and reflect on the quotations we have posted along the way. The installation was created by Arm in Arm in collaboration with SVT and the Harvard Conservation Trust. www.svtweb.org/hmk.
